I head to the shop this morning to fix my third brake light (Ill probably re-do it again in the future because it was a little sloppy for me), and when I was putting the car back together, I got the call.
My sister got T-boned making a left turn across two lanes of traffic that is always really dangerous. She got hit on the rear drivers quarter panel, and as luck would have it, the car was impounded because of the damaged gas cap, and the potential for a leak.
Lets not forget the adventure of getting my mechanic off the side of the highway with a dead alternator....that was a PITA.
So my evening is going to get better and better.

Sounds like one of those days you can't hit the ground if you dropped your hat.
Keep your head up. You won't drop your hat that way.

Hope your sister is okay!
And remember, things usually come out even, so things will hopefully come around your way soon.

I enjoy having my car in 100% working order. The light hasn't worked for a long time, but if it's there, and it's supposed to work, I'm sure as hell going to fix it. Rearview mirror is up next up, maybe tuesday. I have to go by when the shop is going to be open. They let me do what I want provided I'm not in the way, and I even get to use their tools. That's the best part. Today I used a butane soldering iron. I didn't even know they came like that, but damn they're pretty nice. I still prefer my digital soldering station, but I had to work in the trunk because the wire wasn't removable easily.

From the call, she sounded okay, I'm sure she'll be fine. Just get to wait for the joy of coming home to my dad's mood after hearing this one. Tensions have been a bit high at my house, this certainly wont help. Not much anyone can do though.
To be perfectly honest, she shouldn't have made the left turn there anyway so I'm not sure what insurance is going to say about it. I haven't seen it or pictures yet, but from what my other sister said (this happened exiting the parking lot where I work, but today was my day off), the rear drivers side wheel is off, so that means at least the knuckle is completely shot, possibly the control arms, and worse case scenario, their mounts and/or frame damage. Considering the gas cap is damaged, it means there's damage to the fender as well, and being a unibody car, damage to the rear is essentially a death knell.
